Rosie Cannonball: Reviews & Ratings

Food and service here is always excellent. Nice relaxed but cool vibe inside. Love how they give a small glass of sparkling Lambrusco to everyone at table to start.

Had a great dinner at Rosie cannonball. It felt like a refreshing experience, given that Houston feels like it lacks great Italian/european restaurants at times. Our server was lovely and served us complimentary Lambrusco when we were seated. Ordered the blistered bean salad and a pepperoni pizza to start. The pizza was very good, with great dough, and I can't say enough good things about the bean salad!! One of my favorite salad dishes in a while. We also got the sweet corn agnolotti and blue crab carbonara pastas; both were excellent. The basque cheesecake was solid too, overall would definitely come back!!

I wanted to come here because Cacio e Pepe is one of my favorite Italian dishes and I was excited to see how they'd interpret this as pizza. It did not disappoint. However, I was quite surprised how good the pepperoni pizza was. Simple but tons of pepperonis. Their crust is also phenomenal. I'm usually a "don't eat the crust" person but theirs is perfect. Then we had the basque cheesecake, and wow. So light, but also rich. Fluffy and delicious. Overall, I really enjoyed this place. The vibes and ambiance are great. It's for date night!

I came here with some friends with the full intention of just ordering dessert, but their pizza sounded really good so I gave it a shot. I got the kale pizza, since it came with bleu cheese. Everyone made fun of me for getting a kale pizza but I actually liked it! The combination of honey with bleu cheese on pizza is almost always a hit with me. For dessert, I ordered the torta tenerina, which was a little chocolate torte. It was delicious! I also tried the strawberries & cream, honey cake, and basque cheesecake (tarta de queso) as well. I'd say the cheesecake, honey cake, and torta tenerina were my favorites. The cheesecake is certainly unique! Service was really great and very generous with our party of 7 squeezed into a table for 5. I would definitely recommend getting a reservation. Also it's a bit chilly in there, so a jacket would be recommended as well.

Really cute and modern restaurant on Montrose with a welcoming interior. I sat at the bar and was greeted with lambrusco and popcorn which was a really nice touch. They had quite a good wine selection and an interesting menu. I ordered the tuna tartare toast, the blistered bean salad, a pizza and got the honey cake for dessert. Standouts were most definitely the blistered bean salad, great flavour and texture from the caramelised nuts and peppers, and the honey cake was really delicate and delicious! Overall, I would definitely return to Rosie Cannonball because of the deals they do (happy hour and sundays) and it is a really great place to get a drink and some bites.

I've visited Rosie Cannonball multiple times since it opened a few years ago, and it is delicious. A few of my favorites: -Pizza: The pizza is delicious and has a light, crisp crust. And while really just pizza-adjacent, the flatbread appetizer is a MUST order item. -Pasta: I also really like the bolognese pasta--the sauce was rich and delicious. -Vegetables: Of the vegetables, I really like the bean salad--light but tasty at the same time. -Dessert: For dessert, I remember once having a mint gelato--it was topped with chocolate and had coco nibs at the bottom--yum!

The way Rosie Cannonball was first described to me was the kind of date friendly restaurant where I could go back to enjoy a New York vibes with equally quality Euro style foods. The bad news is that this reminds me nothing of NYC. The good news is I still enjoyed the overall experience and hold the place in high regard. The setting is modern yet casual and it looks like an ideal place for all occasions. I saw dates, work dinner groups with a smattering of young and old faces in a fairly open dining area with a nice bar, booths along the edge, and a tiny open kitchen. Bonus points for a super clean bathroom and complimentary valet. I managed to find street parking as well as space in the nearby lot. One of Houston's biggest food holes is the lack of abundant European (#1) cuisine and on some level, Rosie Cannonball does its best to fill this void with a multitude of Italian inspired dishes. The first kudos I give is to their cocktails ($14) which were among the highlights of the evening. I was impressed with their extensive mocktail ($10) list and really happy with their wine selection. On an appetizer front, the charred broccoli ($14) was so simple, but had a nice smokey crunch. The marinated beets ($20) were refreshing and beautifully presented. The scallop crudo ($18) and steak tartare ($22) were misses for me, but I would consider ordering them again. My group and I were particularly happy with the focaccia di recco ($22), which was a pizza-like flatbread stuffed with mortadella and rabiola cheese with a super generous honey drizzle. It almost reminded me of a phyllo consistency, but was sweet, savory, and salty all in one bite. For our mains, we enjoyed a several pizzas, which included the pepperoni pizza ($20), cacio e pepe ($20), and clam ($22). They were "fine" but did not stand out enough for me to consider ordering more. The pastas were much of the same, cavatelli alla bolognese ($18) tasting a tad flat and the blue crab carbonara ($26) feeling more creamy than crabby. I was extremely excited for the penne alla vodka ($34), seeing as many Italian places here don't even have it, but aside from the flaming show, it felt like a routine baked pasta dish with not enough vodka sauce. Service was lovely overall. The wait staff came by often, was pleasant each time and was solid with making recommendations. They were quite honest with me about the shortcomings with certain dishes and I really appreciate the transparency. Reservations aren't required, but are highly recommended. A perfect time to come here would be during their happy hour, which includes a generous 20% off the entire check. __________ (#1) Yes, all of them. Take your pick.

Rosie Canonball is known for European comfort food in the heart of Montrose and is one of my favorite restaurants in Houston. It was founded by the Goodnight Hospitality group which is behind Montrose Cheese & Wine and MARCH Restaurant. The kitchen is an open concept with live fire and is centered around a wood-burning oven and grill. On the menu, you'll find local vegetables, pastas, pizzas, seafood, and locally-sourced meat. You'll also find an extensive wine list and amazing Italian-influenced cocktails. The parking situation is a bit tough as there isn't a private parking lot. They do offer tipped valet parking. Although they have limited seating outside, there is a lively atmosphere indoors. I would recommend getting a reservation when coming here as it's usually packed. As for the menu, it does tend to change slightly over the seasons. I have tried so many cocktails and dishes at Rosie Canonball, it's been hard to keep track of! Luckily, I wrote some notes below: [COCKTAILS] +Wonderful Performance (vodka, coconut, pineapple, citrus, and eggwhite) for $14 - This tastes like a piña colada! - 4.5/5 +Rosie's Old Fashioned (bourbon and cardamom-rhubarb) for $14 - 4/5 +Late Monsoon (bourbon, spiced pear, apple, and sparkling wine) for $14 - 4/5 +Space Somm (rums, pedro ximenez sherry, passionfruit, and pineapple) for $14 - 4/5 +Written & Directed By (old tom gin, amaro, oloroso sherry, and italicus) for $14 - 4/5 +Featherweight (dry vermouth, genepy, chartreuse, apricot, and citrus) for $14 - 4/5 +Antilles Hour (rhum agricole, cocchi americano, banana, and absinthe) for $14 - 3.5/5 [MOCKTAILS] +Safe & Sound (pineapple, citrus, peach, and spices) for $10 - 4.5/5 +All Together (seedlip spice 94, citrus, and passionfruit) for $10 - 4/5 +Rosie Riviera (grapefruit, pomegranate, and soda) for $10 - I wished this had more carbonation in it as it has soda. It also feels like this would be better chilled. - 3/5 [STARTERS & SHARES] +Focaccia di Recco (Warm flatbread with mortadella & robiola cheese) for $22 - 5/5 +Tuna Crudo (pomegranate agrodolce, citrus, and salsa verde) for $20 - 4.5/5 +Burrata & Fire Roasted Tomato (confit garlic, cuquillo olive gremolata, and baguette) for $20 - 4/5 [VEGETABLES] +Blistered Bean Salad (pea shoots, shallots, fresno peppers, olives, and candied almonds) for $16 - 4.5/5 +Marinated Beets (burrata, sunflower seed vinaigrette, oleppo honey, and pain de campagne for $18 - 4/5 +Melon & Cucumber Salad (colatura, colabrian chili crisp, and ricotta salato) for $18 - 4/5 +Grilled Romaine (green garlic dressing, boquerones, parmesan, and breadcrumbs) for $16 - 3.5/5 [PIZZA] +Cacio E Pepe (white souce, formoggi al pepe, and pecorino) for $20 - 5/5 +Fennel Sausage & Peppers (colabrian chile, allium cont. scamorza, and fresnos) for $20 - 4/5 +Caramelized Onion and Bacon/Date Jam (grand cru gruyere, bacon date jam, and arugula) for $24 - 4/5 +Pineapple & Schiacciata (mozzarella, lardo, and hot honey) for $22 - This pizza is really sweet, like a dessert, if you're into that. It's also really soggy. - 3.5/5 [PASTA] +Gnocchi (cauliflower, truffle, and balsamic) for $36 - 5/5 +Cavatelli Alla Bolognese (lambrusco bolognese and parmigiano reggiano) for $20 - 5/5 +Penne Alla Vodka (creamy tomato sauce, caciotto, mozzarella, and latterio cheeses) for $24 - 5/5 +Fregula with Clams (saffron, fennel, and chili oil) for $28 - 3/5 [FROM THE FIRE] +Grilled Redfish (colatura glaze, butter beans, and chive crème fraîche) for $34 - The butter beans were okay, I think this item could have been better with the choice of sides. - 3.5/5 [DESSERT] +The Honey Cake (burnt honey, dulce de leche whipped cream, and crème fraiche gelato) for $14 - 5/5 Overall, Rosie Canonball is always an amazing experience. Their pastas are handmade in the morning and taste super fresh by night. The pizzas are cooked in their wood-burning oven and are incredible. If you want to have European comfort food in a lively atmosphere in Houston, Rosie Canonball is your best bet. Highly recommended!

My friend made reservations here for my birthday and it was absolutely perfect. The service was fantastic, our waiter made great recs, offered complementary Lambrusco, and was very attentive. We had cocktails, cacio e Pepe pizza, and bolognese. I did not remember to take a picture. However we did split the meal and ate every single bit of it. The portion was a great size and I will be dreaming about that bolognese for days. Dessert was paired with espresso martinis. It was very hard choosing which one I liked best because they were both phenomenal but the honey cake was perfection.

We've been to Rosie a couple times and are fans! During this time we visited with some friends, so we were able to try a few different things. To start, we got a few drinks - which were good, but nothing to write home about. We started with the focaccia di recco without meat. Which was interesting- I wished I saw a picture in advance because it was not what I was expecting. It was more like light flatbread with honey and cheese. It was okay. We got two pizzas - the Cacio e Pepe pizza is what we visit for and it's great! The other margarita like pizza was just okay. Their crust is pretty yummy for what it's worth. We decided to get a side of their grilled carrots - which was INCREDIBLE. Even the folks at the table who were making fun of the fact that we ordered a side of carrots were blown away by them. Get them! It was definitely the best thing we had all night. We finished it off with a couple desserts- the chocolate hazelnut tort was delicious. Honey cake was okay too! And they were very nice to bring a cookie out for one of our birthdays. We will definitely be back to get the Cacio e Pepe pizza and maybe to try more of their vegetable sides!
